Nice for those of us with small hands as a starting point in learning guitar.
I've read the reviews from musicians panning this guitar for all sorts of reasons, but I'm approaching it from a different perspective. I'm an adult with small hands and I've always found learning guitar difficult because my fingers don't reach where they need to reach. So I figured I'd try this out, quickly getting it in tune with the iOS app, and then following along with the chord videos. Admittedly, the app needs some work and the flashcards don't do a great job telling me what I need to do to get each chord going, but the concept of a three-string guitar is a good one. And yes, the sound leaves something to be desired and the strings aren't great, but again, I'm just trying to learn so I don't need wonderful sound yet, but merely something that roughly equals what I'm trying to achieve. And this does the trick. Off to practice...
Great to learn on
This comes with three strings so you can learn to play. They say if you know how to play the three main chords you can play any song. Great learning guitar.
Kids can eventually transition to 6 string
What I really like about the Loog Pro is that it can use the same tuning as the top 3 strings of a 6 string guitar. This makes it possible to transition the learning to a regular guitar in the future (I would not recommend using an alternative tuning if the student might want to play a regular guitar eventually). The 3 string design is nice because kid hands are small and it Is easier for them to wrap their hands around a 3 string fretboard vs. a 6 string. You can also use regular guitar strings! I am happier with this Loog Pro acoustic guitar compared to the cheaply made, poorly designed 6 string kids guitars I tried before this one.
Easy to learn and looks cool
We encourage the love of music in all three of our kids so when the oldest asked for a guitar last year we got her a nice acoustic. However she also insisted on self learning and I feel she is mostly frustrated. So when the middle child wanted a guitar as well this one seemed like a great opportunity that would be better for learning. The instrument is beautifully made, even though it is only three strings it doesn’t look childish or uncool. The app and flash cards are a bit more child geared however they are great for learning. I find my son has gotten more enjoyment from his guitar than his sister, he has learned quickly and by his birthday I think he'll be ready for a new acoustic and will be passing this to his younger brother so he can learn as well.
Great for kids AND adults
I can't recommend this guitar highly enough. I've tried to learn guitar many times over the years and never gotten far. With this guitar's unique design I found myself playing in an hour. It's amazing how much of a difference a smaller neck and strings placed further apart helps. The guitar has a pretty good sound, considering it's tiny size, but it's that's almost not the point. The idea is to build your core skills so you can transfer them to a larger guitar once you have mastered the basics. The thing I love is that this guitar (and the accompanying tutorials) get you playing quickly and make the process fun. This is a fantastic entry into what can be an otherwise frustrating instrument.
