Happy birthday Dolly Parton! The ultimate American jewel turns 76 years young today and we’d thought we’d celebrate her great life and contributions with a special edition of our “Musicians for Kids” series (you can find our homage to David Bowie here).
What makes Dolly such a wholesome figure in American culture? Why is she such a rockstar? What has she done to inspire myriads of musicians during her long and fruitful career? Some of these questions might be hard to answer, but we thought we’d still give it a shot - while also explaining it in a kid-friendly way: Loog monsters!

So buckle up, and get ready for the ride. Oh, and if you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack to this series, don’t miss our Dolly Parton for Kids playlist on Spotify. Just a warning: based on anecdotal evidence, there’s a good chance your five year-old will be humming to Jolene for a couple weeks later.
We also created a 3-string guitar tab sheet to learn how to play “9 to 5” on your Loog - the link is right at the end and right here, in case you were just looking for that.
Note: we tried to fit ALL reasons Dolly is such an amazing inspiration / rockstar in just ten, fun images. We had to leave a LOT out! If you’re really interested in why Dolly means so much to so many people, we 100% recommend you listen to the Dolly Parton’s America podcast by Jad Abumrad and Shima Oliaee.
