U2 FOR KIDS

One of the best things about music is the way it tells people’s stories. By listening to a song, you can learn about people and the things they care about. One band that does this very well is U2.

U2 is a band from Ireland known for pushing the boundaries of rock music and post punk. They started playing while still in high school during the 1970s - imagine starting a band with your friends and still rock together 50 years later!

Inspired by the punk movement, they combined Bono’s lyrics about social issues with The Edge’s massively echoing guitars. Throw in a tight rhythm section with Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr on drums, and you’ve got some anthemic rock songs!

In 1983 U2 released “War”, an album that made them well-known all across Europe. Young people especially liked them and their new sound, as well as their very relevant lyrics.

And with “The Joshua Tree”, an album they released in 1987, they reached superstardom. During the 90s, they performed some of the most ambitious and innovative live rock shows ever, inspiring people with their songs.

U2 is one of the most popular and influential rock bands in the world. And, even though their sound has evolved, they stuck to their punk roots by spreading important messages about human rights and living together, peacefully, as a society.

Their song “Pride (In The Name of Love)” was written about civil rights leader Martin Luther King. He fought for equality but didn't use fists or weapons; instead, he used words and actions to show how powerful love and kindness can be.
